Cooking with Herbs Workshop presented by William Furlong

Admission: $20 SCHF members, $25 non-members (includes all supplies)
Description: Whether you grow your own herbs or buy them fresh, you’ll come away from this demonstration with many simple techniques and recipes with a few of the most common culinary herbs. Bring your note pad, your taste buds and your appetite to this workshop. You will sample all of the recipes that will be prepared for a full course meal. Washing, drying and freezing herbs will also be reviewed. Registration is $20/SCHF members and $25/non-members and includes all supplies. This workshop is the first of many in the series of events surrounding the Hobbs Freeman Arts and Nature Festival in 2012. Space is limited and reservations are required. William Furlong served as executive chef at 208 South Lamar in Oxford, MS. William currently serves as the food and beverage manger at DiamondJacks Casino, Vicksburg. He has become a fabulous addition to the list of SCHF instructors.

Description: Participants will take a very interesting walk through downtown Vicksburg while using their camera as their eyes. Marty Kittrell will teach the students to “stop looking and start seeing” the unique sites of the area. Participants should wear comfortable shoes, bring their own camera and an open mind. Seven-Step Method of Chair Caning presented by Lewis Decell
Date: Wednesdays (May 23, 30, June 6, 13, 20)
Time: 5:30pm-7:00pm

Description: The workshop will teach the students the traditional seven-step method of chair caning. Participants should bring their own chair/stool and scissors/side cutting pliers. Chair must have holes drilled around perimeter of cane area. Space is limited to six students and reservations must be made by May 7. Description: Using bits of nature under foot as inspiration, students will gather leaves, twigs, bark, insect carcasses, lichen, rocks for their project. Celebrated Vicksburg artist, Jean Blue, will assist them in producing a mixed-media painting in liquid acrylic and gel medium using lifting, printing and glazing techniques to create depth and texture. No experience is necessary, just an open mind and a creative spirit. This workshop is one of many in the series of events surrounding the Hobbs Freeman Arts and Nature Celebration.
